Viaowl
Viaowl is email that keeps watch. It catches scams, x-rays every link and strips hidden trackers, then tells you in plain words what it found. Free forever, no ads.
What happens if the owl holds a real email from my bank?
It goes to the owl’s nest, not the bin, and it stays there for 30 days. One tap releases it to your inbox, and you can mark the sender as trusted so it never waits again. The nest also tells you what looked wrong, which is often a link that pointed somewhere the bank’s own emails don’t.
Can a scammer copy my owl phrase onto a fake sign-in page?
Only if they already know it, and they don’t. The real page shows your phrase after you type your email, because only Viaowl knows which phrase belongs to which address. A copy of the page can show a phrase, but it can’t show yours, so if “Silver Lantern” is missing, close the tab.
Will quiet hours hold back my two-factor codes?
No. Quiet hours never delay mail, they only silence the buzz. Codes arrive the moment they’re sent and sit at the top of your inbox. If you want them to buzz too, add the sender to your exceptions under Settings → Quiet hours.
How does the owl know “PayPaI” isn’t PayPal?
It compares every sender against the real domains of well-known companies, letter by letter. A capital I in place of an l, a zero in place of an o, or an extra word tacked onto a trusted name all get caught. The warning shows both spellings side by side, so you can see the trick for yourself.
If I report a scam, does anyone see my email?
No. A report shares only the sender and the pattern that gave it away, so every member’s filter can catch it too. Your name, your address and the rest of the message stay with you.
Where exactly is my mail read, and by whom?
Every check runs on Viaowl’s own servers in Norway. Nothing is passed to outside companies, and your mail is never used for advertising, because there isn’t any. Staff only see a message when you forward it to check@viaowl.com and ask us to look.
Will the owl find scams already sitting in my old Gmail?
Yes. When you import from Gmail, Outlook or iCloud, the owl reads through your old mail too. Anything suspicious lands in the owl’s nest with a note on what it spotted, so you can see what slipped past before.
Can I still use Apple Mail or Thunderbird?
Yes. Viaowl supports IMAP and SMTP, so any standard mail app works. Scam checks and tracker blocking happen on our servers before mail reaches your app. Link x-ray and the safe preview need the Viaowl web or mobile app.
