About this policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Viaowl AS, Karl Johans gate 22, 0159 Oslo, Norway, organisation number 923 456 789 (“Viaowl”, “we” or “us”), uses cookies and similar technologies in the Viaowl email service and on the viaowl.com website. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
In short: the Viaowl web app uses two cookies, both strictly necessary, and the viaowl.com marketing site uses none.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser so that it can recognise the browser on later requests. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels and device fingerprinting.
Cookies can be strictly necessary for a service you have asked for, such as keeping you signed in, or they can be used for other purposes, such as analytics or advertising. Under the ePrivacy Directive and the Norwegian Electronic Communications Act (ekomloven), strictly necessary cookies do not require consent, while other cookies do.
The cookies we use
vo_session: keeps you signed in to your Viaowl account while you use the web app. It contains a random session identifier, is marked secure and HTTP-only, and is deleted when your session ends or you sign out. Type: strictly necessary, first party. Duration: session.
vo_device: remembers a device you have chosen to trust, so that you are not asked for your second factor every time you sign in on it. It is set only if you ask for it by selecting the option to trust the device at sign-in. Type: strictly necessary, first party. Duration: 30 days.
Neither cookie is used to track you across websites, to measure your behaviour or for advertising, and neither is shared with any third party.
The viaowl.com website
The viaowl.com marketing site sets no cookies and uses no similar technologies to recognise you. You can read about Viaowl, compare plans and read our policies without anything being stored in your browser.
What we never use
We use no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no social media cookies, and we load no third-party tracking scripts in the Service or on viaowl.com. We do not use tracking pixels, and we do not use device fingerprinting.
Because the only cookies we use are strictly necessary, we do not show a cookie consent banner. If we ever wanted to use a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we would first update this policy and ask for your consent before setting it.
Managing cookies
You can view, block and delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block vo_session, you will not be able to sign in to the web app. If you delete vo_device, you will simply be asked for your second factor at your next sign-in on that device.
You can also review and remove trusted devices at any time in your account’s security settings, which withdraws the vo_device cookie’s effect on those devices immediately.
Changes and contact
We will update this Cookie Policy if we change the cookies we use. The date at the top shows when it was last updated, and we will notify you in the Service before any change that affects you.
